The original soundboard was cracked and the finish was worn as one might expect in a piano over a century old. We routed open all significant cracks and shimmed them with new pieces of Sitka spruce wood to match the original material.

After repairing the soundboard, we applied three coats of lacquer with wet-sanding between each application. Here you can see the refinished soundboard anxiously awaiting its new pinblock.

The veneer on the rear of the piano had suffered significant damage over the years. We fashioned a new segment of laurel by tracing a pattern from the undamaged portion of the veneer. We cut away the damaged wood and replaced it with the newly crafted inlay.

The original pinblock was cracked and water-damaged such that the piano could not stay in tune. In order to restore the instrument's wonderful playability, we made a new pinblock to the exact dimensions as original.
